High flying India aim to break decade long winless streak against Hong Kong – AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 2023: So, it is going all in favor of Igor Stimac’s India as the national side look to seal their spot in the main rounds of AFC Asian Cup 2023 when India take on Hong Kong in the final match of the group qualifiers. National team head coach Igor Stimac termed ” pleasant headache” on his team selection ahead of the last match. The match will be played at the VYBK Stadium at 8.30 PM IST on 14 June, 2022.
Talking about the selection of the squad, Stimac mentioned, “This is my main worry, and I love this worry. I love this kind of headache you know – it’s a pleasant one, a wonderful one.” The six group winners, along with the best five 2nd best-placed teams earning a ticket to the AFC Asian Cup 2023.
Captain, leader and legend Sunil Chhetri understands the importance of the match against Hong Kong as he said, “There is a big prize at the end which is qualification to the Asian Cup. Even though we have done good in the last two games, we have not achieved anything yet. What we have learnt is to keep everything aside. We just have to focus on the next game, and end the tournament on a positive note,” captain Sunil Chhetri, also present at the press conference, maintained.
On the same discussion, Igor Stimac stressed, “it’s all about the fitness level and physical condition of each player.”
“We need to compliment Hong Kong for what they have shown in the first two games and credit to them for scoring more than us against Cambodia in their clash. ”
Meanwhile, Hong Kong are unbeaten against India in last two decades drawing once and winning twice. So, Igor men will be finish the qualifiers stage at high withh maximum points. However, Hong Kong presents stern test for the Blue Tigers.
