“I want to score more goals for my country,” ecstatic Gurkirat aims for higher accolades after SAFF U20 Victory: Following an early setback, Team India came up with dominating responses and eventually secured the U20 SAFF championship taking sweet revenge against Bangladesh in the finals. No.9, Gurkirat Singh’s performance met the eye scoring 8 goals throughout the campaign ( netted 4 goals in the final alone). However, after the victory, he was asked to share his thoughts, as he mentioned his aim for the future. Here is what Gurkirat Singh had to say.

Gurkirat Singh reacts to his four goals and also shares his future goals

Gurkirat Singh, the Punjab-born striker, is contracted with Mumbai City FC. He had a quite few substitute appearances in the last season for the club. However, the life-changing episode came in final when he found the net four times to steer his country to victory. When he was asked to share his feelings, he was delighted, but he had one eye set on the National team.

The striker was quoted saying, “ It was a great feeling to score those goals. I am very happy as we won the competition.  I want to score more goals for my country. Coach Ventakesh told us to stay mentally strong. Just a few minutes later, we got our goal and it continued for the next few minutes.

Talking about the fans, Gurkirat mentioned, ” Fans were amazing throughout the campaign. They pumped us up and we responded well to their support. I thank all of them and want them to keep supporting us.

After a short vacation, Gurkirat Singh is expected to join the Mumbai City camp soon. Mumbai City FC have already started their pre-season in Dubai. They will be arriving in Kolkata in the next few days for the Durand Cup 2022
