Mohun Bagan host FC Ravshan in their ACL2 Group Stage Opener
Following a topsy-turvy start to the 2024-25 season, Mohun Bagan Super Giant is set to face a stern test in their pursuit of success in AFC competitions. Having won the League Shield, the Mariners are placed in the AFC Champions League 2 Group Stage, and the opening tie is fast approaching. Mohun Bagan SG will be hosting FC Ravshan from Tajikistan on 18th September 2024. The match will be played at the iconic Vivekananda Yuvabharati Krirangan, with a kick-off time of 7:30 PM.
The Mariners didn’t have the best of starts this season, failing to defend leads on numerous occasions. They squandered two-goal advantages in their last two consecutive games, raising questions about their defensive structure.
Speaking about the upcoming game, Mohun Bagan SG head coach Jose Molina remained optimistic about their chances of progressing to the next stage. However, he reminded everyone about the need to adjust their game plan when facing a new opponent.
Defender Tom Aldred also expressed confidence in the pre-match press conference, discussing the team’s preparations. With the side mostly playing in a 3-5-2 formation, FC Ravshan is expected to have a strategy to exploit the gaps between the wide center-backs and wing-backs.
FC Ravshan Kulob’s Head Coach said, “I am familiar with Indian football. We have analyzed it and reviewed the results. I’ve been well-informed about Indian football, especially Mohun Bagan, over the last five years.”
It remains to be seen how things pan out on Wednesday with the fans expecting nothing less than a victory (all three points).
