East Bengal Set to Bolster Defence with Expected Signing of Nacho Monsalve

East Bengal Set to Bolster Defence with Expected Signing of Nacho Monsalve: East Bengal are set to strengthen their defensive unit with the expected signing of Spanish centre-back Nacho Monsalve, a move that could add valuable experience and composure to the Red & Gold Brigade ahead of the 2026–27 season.

The 31-year-old defender is no stranger to Indian football, having previously featured in the Indian Super League with Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Known for his aerial dominance, calmness in possession, and ability to organize the backline, Monsalve established himself as one of the league’s dependable foreign defenders during his stint in Kolkata.

Having developed through the youth ranks in Spain before playing across several European leagues, Monsalve brings a wealth of professional experience. His ability to read the game, build attacks from the back, and remain composed under pressure makes him an ideal fit for teams that prefer structured, possession-based football.

For East Bengal, the potential arrival comes at a crucial time as the club prepares for a demanding campaign on multiple fronts. The Red & Gold Brigade are expected to compete in domestic competitions while also gearing up for the AFC Champions League Two (ACL 2) Preliminary Round, where they will face Al Qadsia SC on August 12 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. Strengthening the defence has been a key priority as the club looks to build on its recent success.

Monsalve’s familiarity with Indian football could prove to be a significant advantage, allowing him to settle quickly into the squad without requiring an extended adaptation period. His leadership qualities and experience in high-pressure matches are also expected to benefit East Bengal’s relatively young defensive unit.

While an official announcement is still awaited, the move appears to be a statement of intent from East Bengal as they continue to reinforce their squad. If completed, the signing of Nacho Monsalve could provide the stability and experience needed to help the Kolkata giants challenge for silverware once again in the upcoming season.
