AFC Cup 2022 Group Stage: Hugo Boumous, Joni Kauko, Pritam Kotal, and Subhasish Bose react to the upcoming campaign

AFC Cup 2022 Group Stage: After easing past the preliminary and playoff stage, ATK Mohun Bagan players have set their eyes on a bigger prize in the upcoming AFC Cup campaign. The Mariners have already started their preparations for the AFC Cup 2022 Group D matches which will take place at the VYBK Stadium from 18 May. Group D features Hero I-League 2020-21 champions Gokulam Kerala FC, Maziya Sports and Recreation, Basundhara Kings, and ATK Mohun Bagan FC. The team from the Maldives has already touched down in Kolkata whereas Basundhara Kings are all set to arrive on Saturday night. As we inch closer to the matches, ATK Mohun Bagan players Hugo Boumous, Joni Kauko, Pritam Kotal, and Subhasish Bose react to the upcoming campaign I.E AFC Cup 2022 Group Stage.

Hugo Boumous Reaction:

One of the top foreigners to play in the ISL, Hugo Boumous feels his side is the favorite to win the group. ” We have had a better preparation compared to last year. We have scored 8 goals in two matches. So, there are no excuses if we can win the championship. We have also seen some of the clippings of the other teams. I feel Basundhara Kings are one of the toughest sides. Gokulam Kerala won the I-League and they are also playing well this season. With the qualities we have, We can defeat all three teams. ” Hugo said.

Joni Kauko Reaction:

The ace midfielder, Joni Kauko has also reacted to the next matches. When I played in Euros, I never thought about opponents. I feel if we look too much into the opponents, there will be added pressure on your shoulders. We have prepared well won two matches early and also defeated Indian Team in a friendly. So, we are in pretty good touch. I have been in India for almost a year and I have adapted to this condition well. The coach is using me slightly lower (Central midfield) but I am scoring goals. However, the most important thing for us is to Win. ” the midfielder mentioned.

Pritam Kotal Reaction:

Captain, Pritam Kotal has also shared his thoughts on the next few matches. “We are playing a different style this year. We know all the opponents which are not easy to beat. Last year, We have drawn with Basundhara and scored 3 goals against Maziya after conceding one. Our main objective is to be the group champions first. Fans always cheer us. That’s why we get the motivation to win for them. Hopefully, they will enjoy all the matches, ” said the defender

Subhasish Bose Reaction:

Left-back Subhasish Bose thinks that the defenders have to take responsibility in the coming matches. “We have prepared really well and are in a good nick. David, Hugo, Listo, and Kauko have scored in the last few matches., We have to focus on the defence so that they will have an easier job to finish the matches. We have to take one match at a time and the Mariners always play for the championships so, we have to remember that. ”
