Mohun Bagan Mumbai Showdown Ends in a stalemate in the ISL 2024-25 Opener
The blockbuster opening match between Shield Winners Mohun Bagan SG and ISL Cup Holders Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League 2024-25 ended in a stalemate. The home side showed their prowess, applying early pressure to secure an early lead. The Mariners then doubled the lead following a beautifully taken corner by Dimi Petratos, with Greg Stewart heading it towards Alberto Rodriguez, who made no mistake and found the back of the net with a left-footed finish inside the crowded penalty box.
After the break, Mumbai City FC head coach Petr Kratky made some much-needed changes, bringing in Chhangte and introducing fast wingers to the game. After applying constant pressure, the Islanders halved the deficit through Tiri and set up a grandstand finish in the last 20 minutes.
On the other side, Mohun Bagan’s head coach seemed to be running out of ideas, making predictable changes. The Mariners’ defence had no answers as Noufal created dangerous moments time and again. Eventually, after a misplaced pass by Asish Rai, Noufal took on Anirudh Thapa one-on-one, outfoxed him with ease, and laid it off for the onrushing Krouma, who scored with a precise finish, levelling the game with only a couple of minutes to spare.
The game of two halves saw both teams open their account with a point. Mohun Bagan SG will be disappointed, having thrown away a two-goal lead from a comfortable position.
