Odisha FC secure Historic Win in their debut at the AFC Women’s Champions League 2024 in Amman, Jordan

Historic Win for Odisha FC in their debut at the AFC Women’s Champions League 2024 in Amman, Jordan: Odisha FC Women marked their AFC debut in style, securing a commanding 4-1 victory over Singapore’s Lion City Sailors, highlighted by a brilliant brace from Lynda Kom at the Prince Mohammad Stadium in Jordan.

The match began on a competitive note, but Odisha FC took the lead in the 20th minute thanks to an own goal, which came from a well-placed corner by Neha. Despite creating numerous chances, Odisha failed to extend their lead, and Lion City Sailors capitalized, equalizing in the 40th minute with a precise shot across the goal. The first half ended with the score level at 1-1.

The Juggernauts returned to the pitch with renewed vigor in the second half, and Lynda Kom quickly made her mark, netting two goals in quick succession in the 54th and 57th minutes. With a comfortable 3-1 lead, head coach Crispin opted to substitute Pyari Xaxa in the 63rd minute due to concerns over an ankle issue.

Lion City Sailors continued to push forward, but Odisha’s new center-back recruit, Ibhrahim Maryam, delivered a solid defensive performance. In the 88th minute, the Sailors conceded another own goal, sealing Odisha’s 4-1 victory.

Odisha FC will next face Jordan’s Etihad Club on August 31, 2024, in the preliminary stage. The winner of the group will advance to the group stage of the inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League. So, stay tuned with Grind India for further details.
