Vincenzo Alberto Annese leaves Gokulam Kerala after historical achievements: After winning back-to-back I-League titles, Vincenzo Alberto Annese leaves Gokulam Kerala FC to take a new challenge. The Malabarian became the only team to remain unbeaten in 21 matches( I-League era). Gokulam represented India in AFC Cup 2022 under coach Annese where they defeated ATK Mohun Bagan in their debut match. Unfortunately, the Malabarians could not replicate their form rest of the matches as they went out keeping their heads high.

I am thankful to the All India Football Federation for all the motivation and inspiring words given to me.

Annese took over Gokulam before the 2020-21 season replacing Fernando Varela who won the Durand Cup 2019. Everyone thought that it will be difficult for Annese to fill the boots left by the Argentinian. However, the Italian wrote his own script by defeating Churchill Brothers (coached by Varela) on the final day of the league.

The task of defending the championship has always been difficult. However, Annese believed in himself and provided opportunities to young players whom he found. Young players like Jasim, Zaman, and Srrekuttan played their part as they remained unbeaten for 21 matches. Eventually, the Malabarians defeated Mohammedan Sporting in front of the away fans to clinch the championship yet again on the final day.

Just after three days, Gokulam took part in the AFC Cup cup and stunned ATKMB in the opening match. Annese was proud of his boy as he said, “There is no difference between I-League and ISL” Meanwhile, the Italian indicated his departure at the post-match press conference of the final match in the AFC Cup.
