FC Goa vs East Bengal

The Gaurs got control of the ball from the get-go while East Bengal looked nervy, missing short passes in random. An attack down the left opened up the EB defense and Ivan Gonzalez’s error was easily capitalized by Brandon Fernandez as the Gaur silenced the crowd early in the game. EB could not find any rhythm as FC Goa went close to doubling the lead but Kamaljit’s valiant effort kept them at bay.

With more than 18k fans cheering for the home team, East Bengal found momentum as they put together a spell of procession eventually leading to earning a penalty in the box. The Brazilian Cleiton Silva converted the penalty as the Red & Gold brigade restored parity. Both teams were canceling each other while FC Goa earned a free-kick 35 yards outside the box. A dipping free-lick out-foxed everyone and even Kamaljit as the ball ended up in the top corner.

It was too late for East Bengal to even think about the comeback. FC Goa start their campaign with a victory over EastBengal. The latter tasted successive defeats, having won only 4 out of 42 matches. East Bengal will take on NorthEast United on 20 October 2022.
