Chennaiyin FC complete second-half comeback to stun the Mariners at their backyard – ISL 2022-23: The two-time ISL Champions, Chennaiyin FC shocked ATK Mohun Bagan courtesy of a perfect second-half comeback at the iconic Salttake stadium. Following a topsy-turvy start to the season, ATK Mohun Bagan needed an immediate response however, Chennaiyin made it very difficult in the early stages but the Mariners eventually broke through following a calm finish by Manvir. They went close to doubling the lead but the lack of composure in the attacking third was clearly visible.
Thomas Brdarir tweaked a few changes and his team started the second half very positively. Just when the Mariner looked to gain control of the game, the play was halted due to a power cut. The match started 13 minutes later and the momentum was completely shifted to the away side. Eventually, they earned a penalty and restored parity through the substitute Karikari. The relentless pressure had even put them in the lead as Rahim Ali found the back of the net.
With only the last few minutes remaining, the inclusion of Liston helped his side to launch attack after attack. However, it was too little too late as Debjit came up with a brilliant save to deny the no.17. The Green and Maroon brigade suffered defeat on their very first home game as they have all things to answer in the upcoming games.
